British Roadster Gets a Mustang V8 Makeover

The British-built MGB isn’t exactly known for its performance capabilities. First launched in 1962, the roadster came with a 1.8-liter engine that delivered 85 hp and a 0-60 mph time in a (staggering) 12 seconds – pretty solid for 1960’s standards, but most definitely under-powered today. Low and behold, some genius has decided to give this Brit an American makeover. How? By fitting it with a 5.0-liter V8 engine from a Ford Mustang. The best part is, it can be yours.

Available for $14,500 in Stockton, California, a listing on Craigslist details that the roadster has been totally souped up with a 5.0-liter High Output V8 straight from the hood of a 1992 Ford Mustang. It comes with a 5-speed T5 manual transmission and 8-inch Ford rear axle with 3.25:1 gears and Traction-Lok. The post also shines a light that the extra weight tips the scales at 1900 pounds, but has 300 lb-ft of torque, making it “extremely quick and an absolute blast to drive”. From the pictures, we’re thinking that it’s in great condition, too. MG experimented with more powerful engines in the past, but it came at a cost. The 2.9-liter MGC may have had more power, but the extra weight changed the handling, and not in a good way. So, we can only imagine how the MGB Roadster will handle with a 5.0-liter V8 Mustang engine. Keep us updated if you decide to make the purchase, just in time for the holidays.
