When General Motors Was Dreaming: The Cadillac Cyclone

This 1959 Cadillac Cyclone was the last “dream car” created during Harley Earl’s time as General Motor’s VP of design. Looking more like a jet aircraft than a car, the Cyclone was designed for the future. The fenders resembled rockets and a Plexiglas bubble top automatically closed for rain. When not in use, the canopy (like that of an aircraft cockpit) folds backward beneath the surface of the trunk. You didn’t have to open it up to talk to people outside of the car though; for that there was an intercom system. At the touch of a button, the Cyclone’s doors moved outward 3 inches from the car and slid back smoothly for easy entrance. This revolutionary concept car was complete with a radar-sensing crash avoidance system and a 325-horsepower engine.
