“Little Red” 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 Found After 50 Years

A piece of Ford and Shelby history has recently been discovered. The car known as “Little Red” is a one-off GT500 notchback coupe. The car was originally used by Shelby American to develop performance parts for other vehicles.

In 1967, Ford sent a Mustang GT notchback coupe with a vinyl roof to Carroll Shelby and his team. The car was fitted with a 428 cubic-inch V-8 engine and is the only GT coupe to ever have a pair of four-barrel carburetors. The Shelby GT500 was offered to the public in convertible and fastback models, making Little Red here a very rare prototype.

Craig Jackson from the Barrett-Jackson auction house found the car with the help of classic car specialist Jason Billups and Mustang expert Kevin Marti. The car was left in a yard, along with several other cars by the previous owner. They used its original Ford Mustang VIN to find and authenticate the car.  Jackson purchased the car and plans to restore it fully. We can only imagine (and hope) that once the car is back to its former glory, it’ll be put on the auction block. More to come.
