Head to Head: C8 Corvette vs. Mustang Shelby GT500

A mid-week check in on a good old fashioned drag race – at least in our opinion, there isn’t. Today we have a classic matchup of sportscar power. While the C8 is certainly a fast car, it wasn’t exactly designed for drag racing. Now, let’s talk specs. In one corner we have the 2021 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray, powered by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine that produces 490-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It can get from 0-60 in a little over 3 seconds, or 2.9 seconds when it has the Z51 package, bringing overall power to 495-hp. In the other corner there’s the Mustang Shelby GT500, packing a whopping 760-hp and 625 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. The Ford gets from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and does the quarter mile in just 11, so the odds are leaning in the Mustang’s favor, but you never know how these things could shake out. Place your bets, and check out the video below to find out who comes out with the W.

Ford Focus RS vs. Toyota GT86

Well, well, well. What do we have here? An all-wheel drive hatch challenging Toyota’s first rear-wheel drive sports coupe in ages. The Japanese car being challenged is fit with skinny low-grip tires and a driveshaft down the GT86’s sagittal plane, allowing the 205 horsepower boxer-four to hit some serious drifts. Knowing all of this, we would usually tell the Focus to take a hike. But, the RS has a trick up its sleeve. The name of said trick? “Drift mode.” Shocking, we know. Question is, how effective is it against the tried and true method of sending power to the rear. Let’s find out, right here:

The Wreck Runner

On episode 87 of Roadkill, David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan bought a completely trashed 1968 Road Runner and revived it. Giving us, the world’s only C-Body Road Runner. On a recent episode, Freiburger and Steve Dulcich use the C-Body as a parts car. Check it out and watch as they turn a ’68 Plymouth Satellite body purchased for $500 into a 383, four-speed Road Runner clone for under $10k. Enjoy.

The Ford GT on the Autobahn

There’s no denying that the Ford GT is an iconic supercar. The lucky few who were able to get their hands on one have had the opportunity to turn around and sell them for insane prices not long after. The 660-horsepower machine deserves nothing but the “Oohs” and “Aahs” of adoration. Thanks to AutoTopNL on YouTube, we get to watch, and more importantly listen, to the Ford GT get after it on the Autobahn. Check it out, right here.
