Sneak Peak: 2019 Dodge Charger
Introducing the 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. For 2019, the car will maintain the 8-speed automatic transmission and the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 producing 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. So, what’s new? Updated styling as well as a slew of new performance features.
Styling includes a new grille with dual inlets which assist in getting cool air to the engine. As for the performance features, Dodge will offer Launch Assist, Line Lock, After-Run Chiller, and Torque Reserve. See below for a definition of each, thanks to the good people over at Motor Authority.
- Launch Assist: Wheel speed sensors watch for driveline-damaging wheel hop at launch and, in milliseconds, modified the engine torque to regain full grip
- Line Lock: Engages front brakes to hold the car stationary while the rear pair are free for a burnout
- After-Run Chiller: Keeps cooling the supercharger/charge air cooler after the engine is shut off
- Torque Reserve: Closes a bypass valve to prefill the supercharger and manages fuel flow and spark advance to balance engine rpm and torque, thus generating a reserve of torque to be delivered upon acceleration from a standing stop
