The 1910 Buick Bug

Meet the 1910 Buick Bug. Back in the day, Buick built only two 4-cylinder, 622-cubic-inch 60 Specials and naturally Jay Leno got his hands on one. Not only is this racer rare, it’s revolutionary in the aerodynamics department. It was the first racecar to put the driver in the center of the body and that lead to (you guessed it) a whole lot of speed. Check it out, right here:

The driver is in the center, as opposed to on the right or left. This ruled out the participation of a driving mechanic in the passenger seat. The aerodynamics rather than the placement of the driver result in a whole lot of speed.
