1964 Ford Mustang 1/2

Every great car starts with an idea. This particular idea was to design and build a luxury carĀ  with seating for four, a floor-mounted shifter, a weight of less than 2,500 pounds, a length no longer than 180 inches, and a price tag of less than $2,500. Enter, the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang. Each model came standard with a 170-cubic inch incline-6 engine. Additional options included 164-horsepower 260, 210-hp 289 4-valve low-compression, and 271-hp 289 cubic inch Hi-Po V-8s.

In the first year alone, Ford sold almost 700,000 Mustangs between the 1964 1/2 and the 1965 models. The brand would go on to partner with the legendary Carroll Shelby and create the Shelby GT350. After that, the rest is history. One thing is for sure, and it’s that the Blue Oval has consistently produced Mustangs since the first one rolled off the line. What other automakers can say that?
