Benz Royalty: The 540K Streamliner

This is the 540K Streamliner: a technical masterpiece from Mercedes-Benz. This car was created as a one-off back in 1938 and has been lost, and found since. The mastery lies in the aluminum-bodied machine, able to cut through the wind with some help from its supercharged 5.4-liter straight-eight engine.

This car was all about speed and luxury but it never got a proper debut. The 540K wound up as a tire-company test machine before it disappeared. Fast forward to present day and this ride has been found and restored to its former glory. It’s so good in fact, Mercedes made a movie about it:
