Crossovers Like This One Are What’s Killing Sedans

It’s the 2017 Buick Encore. Crossovers like this particular one are becoming more and more trendy in the industry, and the trend is likely to continue. Let’s talk about the Buick Verano, a compact sedan on its way to the grave with no successor in sight. This isn’t because the Verano is a bad car, it’s that there aren’t enough people who want one.

We dare you to walk into a Buick dealership and not be drawn to the site of the Encore crossover. The industry trend of crossovers killing sedans is a sad but true one that we completely understand. The 2017 Buick Encore has an updated front and some much needed interior upgrades. Check out the video below for the latest CarBuzz unboxing of this turbocharged, 1.4-liter four-cylinder Encore with 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.

I just purchased the FIAT 500X, which is so sporting I am reluctant to call it a crossover. It packs a turbocharged four banger developing 160 bhp and 184 ft lbs of torque. Light weight; 6 speed MANUAL transmission; as well as taut suspension make this the Lancia Stratos of crossovers.
