Update: Tesla May Start Pilot Production Of The Model 3 On Feb 20th

If you’re like us, you’ve been anxiously awaiting a Tesla Model 3. Well, we have good news. Reuters  reported that Tesla is set to start pilot production of its cheapest model on February 20th. We’re thinking that Tesla will potentially announce this production when fourth-quarter earnings are released. While unfortunate, keep in mind that cars built in this test phase won’t get into consumers hands since they will be built to test the line. It’s also possible that the target date could be missed (cue flashbacks of Teslas missed deadlines). Another factor that could delay test production are last minute design changes or supplier issues that aren’t in Teslas control.

Tesla has begun production of the battery to fit the Model 3. Mass production is currently under way at the Gigafactory. Regardless if Tesla will hit that Feb. 20th deadline they set for themselves, we will likely know in the next couple of weeks if the automaker begins production.
