Packard’s Last Hurrah: The Hawk Sport Coupe
The 1958 Packard Hawk was the epitome of a sports car for some, and an acquired taste for others. This car was the last-gasp effort by Studebaker-Packard before the company went under for good. The Hawk was modified for 1958 with a new fiberglass nose section and an impressive, McCulloch-supercharged 289-cubic inch V8 engine with twin exhausts. The 275hp engine was fitted with a Stromberg two-barrel carburetor then mated to a Borg-Warner Flight-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission – making the Hawk Packard’s fastest car ever.

The Hawk was a bird of an entirely different feather; a fledgling from the Studebaker nest. The mighty Packards had become extinct long before this little fellow was hatched.
