Ford Is Dominating The Autonomous Driving Race

At this point, we know that whether we like it or not, automated driving capabilities are coming. Mainstream automakers are jumping on the band wagon.. considering research and development aren’t limited to new age tech companies or EV automakers. Who’s leading the pack? Why that would be the blue oval. Ford is kicking ass with self-driving tech, according to a report from Navigant Research. 18 different companies (including Tesla and Uber) were considered in determining the current market leaders in autonomous tech development.

The companies we’re ranked in 4 categories: Leaders, Contenders, Challengers, and Followers. Then they were ranked based on sales, marketing and distribution, product capability, quality and reliability and staying power. Ford ranked #1. The runner-up? General Motors, followd by Renault-Nissan and Daimier. The contenders included Tesla and Waymo, as well as BMW, VW Group and Hyundai. Challengers included Honda and … Uber.

Fords Chief Technology Officer, Raj Nair commented on the ranking and said, “We at Ford certainly strive to be leaders in the self-driving revolution – leaders known for doing it right, putting our customers’ safety first, and building a strong business that enables this technology to serve their needs.” Well said, Nair.
