Ford GT40 Replica
The GT40 is arguably the most iconic race car of the 60s. When Ford made an unsuccessful attempt to buy Ferrari, they decided if they couldn’t buy ’em, they’d beat ’em. And so the GT40 was born. It’s mission? beat Farrari at their own game of long-distance sports car racing.
Anyone can talk about the toys they are going to buy, or build, or get their hands on. Few put in the work and get it done. Eric Dean, proprietor of Rimrock Ranch, is one of those few. Eric Dean is an ex-creative director who devotes his spare time to side projects that keep his hands busy. Building this RCR GT40 is one of his greatest feats.

It was important to Eric that the car looked the par. Essentially, that it looked authentic. He describes it as “one of the most beautiful cars ever designed” – so he didn’t want to stray too far from that (and we’re glad he didn’t). The original GT40 designed by Eric Broadly, wanted the car to be all aluminum monocoque. This car’s got CNC suspension components, so from the start isn’t going to be an exact replica of anything. Eric’s goal? A car that performed well, and looked the part.
One of Eric’s goals was to have a really solid power plant. He went with a 302 block, a 331 stroker motor from Keith Craft and it has gobs of power. It did 440 horsepower on the dyno. It’s a Porshe G50 transmission, and its scary fast.
